On Business Cards

First, let me welcome everybody, which is really just my friends and family type people on Facebook who decided to follow the link.  Welcome.

On to business.

It feels to me like I need business cards before I can really begin with offering to do things for people.  I have been going back and forth on that because of the time it will take for them to get to me, even if I was ready to order them right now, which I am not.  So perhaps it'd be good to get into the habit before they arrive.  Feel free to weigh in on that.

Regardless, business cards.

Vistaprint offers 250 business cards in a, limited, variety of styles for free (though you have to pay shipping and they put a small advertisement for themselves on the back). This seems like the best idea, unless somebody knows of another company that offers similarly free cards, in which case I would check them out and compare designs.  Unfortunately, after looking at the designs I do not know which would be the best for me to use.  The designs which imply some sort of business type don't work so well for me since my business doesn't fall into any of their categories, or perhaps overlaps with all of them.  So I'm thinking something symbolic, or just cool looking, is the best way to go.

Instead of trying to describe the various options that are foremost in my mind, or trying to provide links, I will attach images of them.  Yay!

So, please feel free to tell me what you think about the various designs.  The wording and contents themselves are still up in the air until I know which design I'm going with.

Anyway, I still feel really good about this whole project, though I, of course, need to update more often.

It Begins

I'm trying something new.

I should probably tell you a bit about myself.  I am 32, recently married, and I am unemployed.  I have had little success with my usual methods of job hunting so being inspired by One Red Paperclip and my knowledge from theatre (namely that it's who knows you, rather than who you know that is important) I am ending my previous methods, or at least adding additional, and more creative, methods.

My plan is as follows:

1. Get a bunch of business cards. (Any place that offers free basic business cards (with their advertisement on the back) will work just fine.) These cards will have my name, my email, this blog, and my "business name" which is currently "Do It Dave."
2. I will approach people, introduce myself and ask them if there is anything that I could do for them.
1. I will do the things that they ask me to do.
2. Once I am done, I will give them my card and ask them to let me know if there is anything else I could do.
3. I will not ask for payment, though will take it if offered.
3. I will record my experience on this blog in rough detail, in order to protect the privacy of the people I help.  Also to keep from having to record every little detail.
4. I will post a resume and associated information here on my blog for anybody that may want to look at it.
5. I will stay positive.
6. I will persevere.

I do not expect this to be easy, I do not expect it to be miraculous, and I do not expect this to work overnight, but it will be worth it.
